Call To Action: Stop Tritium Venting & Protect the Most Vulnerable

We are requesting that everyone concerned about protecting the most vulnerable take these actions no later than Thursday, December 19, 2024:
Call EPA Region 6 and ask them to:

  • Deny Los Alamos National Lab’s (LANL) application to vent tritium from the waste containers.
  • Ask EPA to clarify that the term “member of the public” in the Clean Air Act Regulation, 40 CFR 61, Subpart H, includes infants and children.

Call the National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA) and ask them to:

  • Require LANL to make public its list of 53 alternatives to tritium venting.
  • Require LANL to rigorously comply with DOE Order 458.1 which requires LANL to maintain public exposure “as low as reasonably achievable” beneath established regulatory limits and to do the full analysis required for that.
  • Require LANL to treat infants and children as members of the public and include calculations of radiation doses to them in its application to EPA.

Please call or email by Thursday, December 19, 2024. Your message could begin like this:

I’m calling about LANL’s application to vent tritium that would impact nearby Pueblos and residents….
