TONIGHT, Tuesday July 12th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm – LANL Meeting about proposed amendments to the TA-16-399 Closure Plan for Open Burning Treatment Unit at LANL

Tonight, July 12th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm LANL is hosting a virtual webex public meeting about the contamination (high explosives and barium metal) below the burn tray for high explosives at TA-16.  Connection info here:  https://ladailypost.com/lanl-notice-of-class-2-amendment-to-closure-plan-open-burning-treatment-unit-technical-area-16-399-burn-tray/

After Concerned Citizens for Nuclear Safety insisted that the NM Environment Department (NMED) require additional sampling below the concrete pad on which the burn tray was located, LANL found high explosives and barium metal.

LANL says they may have to removal 15,000 cubic feet of contaminated soils. One big question is whether NMED required LANL to sample for PFAS, which are found at DOD open burn facilities across the country.  Join us for the public meeting.

LANL, unlike WIPP last week, has stated that the public can make comments and ask questions verbally or via the chat channel. LANL staffers will take screen grabs of the questions and comments on the chat. All questions will be answered during the meeting.  If they don’t have the answers, LANL will provide written responses to them.
