New Nuclear Bunker Buster Bomb Plans Revealed The Department of Energy is seeking millions of dollars for work in part on a new bunker-busting nuclear weapon called the Nuclear Deterrent System-Air-delivered (NDS-A) in its latest budget request… Beyond that it will be air-delivered, there are also no details currently available publicly about the weapon’s design, including whether it will be based on something already in the stockpile.

See the graph below found on the Kansas City National Security Complex website. There are three future new-design nuclear weapons on the right above the W93 (“F” is all 3 cases means “Future”). These new-design nuclear weapons presumably will have new-design pits like the W93.

The 11th NonProliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference is being held now at the United Nations. It is universally expected to fail for the third time over a span of 15 years to make any progress toward nuclear disarmament (in fact we are going backwards). The biggest single problem is the massive “modernization” programs to keep nuclear weapons forever.

Plutonium pit production: The Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility will be the most expensive building in U.S. history, with a range of up to $25 billion in NNSA’s FY 2027 budget request plus 6-7 billion in sunk MOX costs that it does not mention (in comparison the new World Trade Center cost ~$6 billion). And these are not final costs as NNSA’s FY 2027 Congressional Budget Request acknowledges.

Pit Production PEIS hearings: The Santa Fe hearing begins at 5:00 pm Thursday May 14 at the Farmer’s Market. Please show up in person!

Performance Evaluation Reports: The contractor for the Savannah River Site (SRS) received poor grades from NNSA for FY 2025, particularly for construction of the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility. The only PER grade worse was when LANL blew up WIPP. NNSA leadership at SRS was clearly sensitive about this when asked. They made the claim that they shook up contractor leadership and that everything is now honkey-dorey. We’ll see about that.

LANL AI center in Ypsilanti, MI: Ypsilanti Township Council moratorium in which the Township comes up with regs for AI data centers: This is being heralded as breaking new ground and setting important new nationwide precedent in fighting against AI and data centers.
